He and his trusty chicken Cluckers spent their days racing through corn rows and entertaining the town’s children. But one misty autumn evening, as fireflies danced above the soybean fields, something new scuttled out of the shadows near the old railroad tracks.

Glark arrived with eight clicking legs and a rattling spine. The spider jockey was a tall, bony skeleton perched atop a sleek black spider named Shadow. Unlike Zek’s cheerful clumsiness, Glark moved with eerie silence, his bow slung across his back and glowing eyes scanning the unfamiliar world. He had fallen through the same glitch that brought Zek to Iowa weeks earlier, but the journey had left him wary and lonely.

Their meeting was pure chaos. Cluckers spotted Shadow first and let out a terrified squawk, bolting straight toward the spider in panic. Zek held on tight, wooden sword raised. “Stop right there, bone man!” he shouted in his squeaky voice.

Glark drew his bow, but paused when he saw the tiny green rider. “Another jockey… here?” His jaw clacked in surprise. Shadow reared up, but the chicken’s frantic flapping actually made the spider back away in confusion.

After the initial standoff, the two jockeys realized they shared the same strange fate. Zek offered Glark a handful of seeds from Farmer McGregor’s silo. Glark, in return, showed Zek how to shoot glowing arrows into the night sky, lighting up the Monticello water tower like a beacon.

Together they became an unstoppable team. When a pack of wild coyotes threatened the town’s livestock, Zek and Cluckers herded them from the ground while Glark and Shadow picked them off from the rooftops with precise shots. The townspeople of Monticello watched in awe as chicken and spider raced side by side through the streets.

By the harvest festival, Zek and Glark were best friends—two glitch-born jockeys bringing Minecraft magic to quiet Iowa nights. Cluckers and Shadow even learned to tolerate each other, though the chicken still refused to let the spider ride on her back.

In Monticello, the impossible had become ordinary, and two unlikely heroes proved that even the strangest companions could find home together.

In the golden fields surrounding Monticello, Iowa, Zek the chicken jockey had become something of a local celebrity.
